About Me

Dr. Julia J. Carlson, DC

Non-Technical Me

I’m a perfectionist.  I can draw pictures from looking at a picture and I can sing one karaoke song really well.   I like lists, systems and correct grammar.  I am a home-body and an entrepreneur at heart.  I grew up in a town of 330 people.  I am the daughter of Barb and Dale, and sister of Jenna and Jacob.  I was named after my great-grandmother, and married my husband, Josh, just 10 days before he left on a one-year deployment to Iraq in 2003.  I get mad when I don’t do things right the first time and I LOVE my two dogs, Inga and Uecker.  I also LOVE CrossFit.  That’s me in a nutshell.  On to the technical stuff.

Technical Me

I have passion for nutrition.  I was overweight as a kid, which is what inspired me to obtain my Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology – Exercise Management.  They told me I would find a really good job that I would love.  Well, I didn’t, and that is what made me decide to go to Chiropractic school in 2004.  Just before graduation from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, my husband had returned home from Iraq.  Shortly after, we moved to Bloomington, MN where I attended Northwestern College of Chiropractic.  I earned my DC degree in 2008, and began practicing shortly after in Eau Claire, WI.

What the Heck Does a Chiropractor Know About Nutrition Anyway?

I didn’t know I was into nutrition when I was in Chiropractic school.  Clinical Nutrition is part of the curriculum of chiropractic school.    I also took clinical seminars from two most brilliant people in the field of nutrition.  I had been suffering for years from digestive problems and battling my weight.  It’s still a learning process…and I love sharing what I know with other people.

Paleo nutrition is extremely intriguing because it is based on the science that we have known for many years.  It just makes sense.  I want to show you how it can make sense for you, how you can implement it into your daily life no matter where you are right now, and help you understand your body better.
